Principles Profile
Mel and
Shirley have delivered group sessions on change, healing and
development throughout North America, including many First
Nation Communities. They have extensive combined knowledge
and experience in research and working with the effects of
traumas from sexual abuse, family violence and the residential
school legacy. In addition to providing intervention
services, they have developed wellness and training programs
for caregivers and staff in areas of self-care/management,
team building and burnout.
Being
You Inc. have been service providers for First Nations &
Inuit Health Branch for fifteen years. As well, they
have been contracted to design and deliver their programs
and to provide administrative services for Eyaa-keen Centre
Inc., a not-for-profit Aboriginal organization registered
as a charity founded by them in 1999. The ‘Being Me,
Being Free’ program is a CARF International accredited Outpatient
Treatment Mental Health (Adults) program.
Mel
and Shirley receive their strength and self-disciplines by
practicing and living Ojibway (Anishinabek) Midewiwin principles
and values which they apply as a base to do their work.
Mel and Shirley have five children and five grand children.
