Principles Profile

Mel and Shirley have delivered group sessions on change, healing and development throughout North America, including many First Nation Communities.  They have extensive combined knowledge and experience in research and working with the effects of traumas from sexual abuse, family violence and the residential school legacy.  In addition to providing intervention services, they have developed wellness and training programs for caregivers and staff in areas of self-care/management, team building and burnout.

Being You Inc. have been service providers for First Nations & Inuit Health Branch for fifteen years.  As well, they have been contracted to design and deliver their programs and to provide administrative services for Eyaa-keen Centre Inc., a not-for-profit Aboriginal organization registered as a charity founded by them in 1999.  The ‘Being Me, Being Free’ program is a CARF International accredited Outpatient Treatment Mental Health (Adults) program.

Mel and Shirley receive their strength and self-disciplines by practicing and living Ojibway (Anishinabek) Midewiwin principles and values which they apply as a base to do their work.  Mel and Shirley have five children and five grand children.
